Building Your 2010 Photo Calendar--March

March is wrapping up and April is waiting to bloom! As people living in snowy climes can attest: Fall brown looks very different than Spring brown. Spring brown holds the promise of green!

Let's load some pictures into our saved calendar file and start building our March page. The easiest way to load new pictures is to first put your new pictures into your calender picture folder. I keep my calendar picture folder on my desk top. You can also keep your calendar folder in My Pictures if you're using a PC or iPhoto if you're using a Mac.

Once you have your new pictures in your folder, open the cards and calendar program; select open saved file; choose your calendar project. Then open your calendar picture folder. This should open on top of your calendar project as illustrated below. Scroll through your picture folder and select the pictures you wish to add. Simply click, drag, and drop your new picture into the picture tray of your saved calendar project. Reminder: Keep your calendar pictures in a folder and keep the folder in the same place! Each time you open any saved photo project, the software looks for your pictures and expects that they are in the same folder in the same place on your computer. Should you receive a "missing image file" warning in one of your saved projects, check that your picture and picture folder have not been moved to a different location, or deleted altogether!

I wanted to build a collage page for this month. I began by deleting the picture template that was there. I clicked in the template square and then pressed the 'delete' button on my keyboard. I had a clean work area! I then clicked, dragged, and dropped all of the pictures I wanted to use. I could move and re-size the pictures later.

Once I had my pictures sized and placed, I tilted some and rounded the corners on some. I finished by placing a border around each picture. My goal for this month was to capture the new buds and the new green amidst all of the brown.

My March page is now complete. I anxiously await April and the vivid colors it brings.

Lowell Community Expo

Freeze Frame Publishing participated the 13th Annual Lowell Community Expo, held at Lowell High School on Saturday, March 28. The event was sponsored by the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. Local businesses filled hallways, the cafeteria, and two gyms displaying their products and services. WLHS radio was on hand to broadcast the event as well as to announce winners of the Chamber raffles.

We met several people and held our own raffle for a FREE classic photo book. This year's winner is Beth Wyckoff of Belding. Congratulations, Beth!

Which Photo Book Size to Choose?

If you are new to photo book building with Freeze Frame Publishing, you may have questions on which photo book size to choose.

Once you have launched the photo book program from your desktop, and after you have selected the 'create new book' option, you will see a dialog box with a drop down menu. You will have five different book choices from which to choose.

Your first choice is our Classic book. It is our most popular sized photo book. It is a landscape orientation. It has a "keyhole" cover which means that one of your pictures will show through the cover. You have several binding options available with this size. Please see our Products and Pricing page for our most complete binding offerings.

Your second and third choices are for our Lay-Flat books. Both of these choices are 8.5" x 11" with one book having a landscape orientation and the other book having a portrait orientation. The pages in these books literally 'lay-flat;' they are mounted on a heavier stock paper. Black leather is the only available cover option for our lay-flat photo books. Custom hard covers are not yet available in our lay-flat books.

Your fourth and fifth choices are for our Square books. You can select a 12"x12" square book or an 8"x8" square book.

Once you have made your choice, you are ready to begin 'framing your memories.' Please refer to our blog post: Load Your Pictures and Start Framing Your Memories for more information on how to load your pictures into the photo book software. More information is also available in our HELP section.

If you find that you want to change book sizes before you send your completed project to Freeze Frame Publishing, you can! Book sizes can be changed to other sizes of the same shape. For example, an 8" x 8" can be changed to a 12" x 12". Also, if you start with a lay-flat book and change to a keyhole cover, any text on the first page will not transfer.

Load Your Pictures and Start Framing Your Memories!

We're glad you're ready to build your first book with Freeze Frame Publishing. We'd like to share a few tips with you to make your book building easier and more enjoyable.

Tip #1:
Create a folder for all of the pictures you wish to use in your photo book. Name it. Save it on your computer's desktop. Keep your picture folder here all the while you work on your project. Each time you open your saved book, the program looks for your pictures in the same location they were when you originally loaded them in to the software.

Tip #2:
The easiest way to load your pictures into the software is to open the photo book program; select the book type you wish to make.

Once the software has opened, find your picture folder. Move your cursor over the folder. Using your left mouse button, click, hold and drag your folder to the picture tray at the bottom of your screen.

Release the mouse button. Your pictures will appear in the picture tray!

Move your mouse to the top of the software screen, select page one by clicking your left mouse button on the page. Your book will open. You are ready to begin 'framing your memories.'

Tip #3:
Save your book by moving your mouse cursor to the "file" tab located at the top of the photo book screen. A drop-down menu will appear. Select "save" and follow the prompts. You can work on your book at a time convenient for you.

Our software for photo books, cards and calendars is very flexible and easy to use. All of our products are fully customizable from page backgrounds to fonts, templates, page layouts, picture borders and enhancements. Women's Expo 2009!

Wow! What a weekend! Thousands of West Michigan women converged on Devos Hall in Grand Rapids, March 13-15. Freeze Frame Publishing was one of hundreds of vendors showcasing products and services tailored to women.

We had the opportunity to demonstrate our photo book software to hundreds of women. We explained how Freeze Frame Publishing is different than many of the photo book companies with whom some have created products.

What is different about Freeze Frame Publishing?
1. One big distinction is that our software is available as a FREE download from our web site.

2. Our software resides on your computer's desktop.

3. Your digital pictures remain on your computer. You do not upload your pictures to a web site.

4. Each page of the photo book you create is completely customizable. You can change backgrounds as many time as you like; you can put captions anywhere you like; you can change fonts, font size and font color any time you like.

5. When you are ready to have your photo products printed, you can upload your photo book file directly to our digital printer in Grand Rapids, or, if high-speed internet is not available where you live, you can save your photo product file to a CD or other media device and mail it to us.

6. You have the option of paying by different methods: pay by check; pay by credit card.

7. Our software is very easy to use!

8. No internet access necessary! Since our software resides on your computer's desktop, you do not need internet access to 'frame your memories' with Freeze Frame Publishing.

We also had a drawing for a FREE classic photo book at the end of each day. The lucky winners this year are: Christine Flock, of Grand Rapids; Patty Bates, of Rockford; and Jenny Babler, of Lowell. Congratulations!

We invite you to download our software and give it a try! If you do not have high-speed internet access, request a disc and we'll send our software to you! Please visit our web site for more information on how Freeze Frame Publishing can help you freeze time and frame YOUR memories forever!

We welcome your comments and suggestions.

Proof Your Project Before Printing

You have just completed your project and you are now ready to send it to Freeze Frame Publishing for printing. Did you know that you have one more opportunity to proof your project before it is printed?

After clicking the Send to FreezeFrame button (see red arrow in the above picture), the Upload screen appears. Before checking the "I have examined the proof for correctness..." and before clicking the continue button at the bottom of the screen, click the View button (see blue arrow in the above picture) to see one last proof of your project.

Our sample "Proof" is of our fund raising 4" x 5.5" informational postcard. We have an opportunity to check for spacing, spelling, and overall look of our postcard. We can also see where the cut marks are as illustrated in the red circled areas. This is the front side of our card.

We can also check the back page of our informational postcard.

If we wish to make any changes we still can. Simply close out the "View" page and click the "Cancel" button at the bottom of the Upload screen. Your project will be in edit mode, ready for any last-minute changes you wish to make.

When you are satisfied with your project, click the Send to FreezeFrame button and begin the process again! You can then choose to upload your project to us or save your project to a CD or other media device and send it to us for processing. Please remember that Freeze Frame Publishing does not review, edit, or change your project in any manner. Please visit our HELP section for further information on reviewing your photo project before it is printed.

Building Your 2010 Photo Calendar --February

Time to build your February page of your 2010 calendar!

For us, February marks the annual Dam-to-Dam Ice Fishing Tournament. Our community of Croton sponsors a fund raising event that benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Newaygo County. We have written about this community event before in previous blog posts. I have decided to use pictures from this year's event on the February page for our 2010 family calendar.

For this month I have chosen a picture of Croton Dam taken on February 14, 2009 as the main calendar picture. That was the day on which the ice fishng tournament took place. The smaller inset pictures were also taken on that day. I used a brick-colored border to coincide with the brick color of the dam.

This month I also used a picture as the background for the entire page.

To have a full page background in your own calendar, choose a picture to use. Click and drag the picture to your work space. Click the icon noted above and your picture will expand to fill the entire page area. You can fade back your background picture by sliding the button noted above. February is now finished and ready for me when I build the March page.

Our cards and calendar software program is very flexible and easy to use. We hope our "gentle" reminders to build your 2010 family calendar month-by-month will be helpful to you as you freeze time and frame your family calendar memories forever!

We invite you to download our free software! If you have slow internet connection, or no internet connection, request a disc and we'll send our software CD to you! You can also sign up to receive our blog posts emailed directly to your in box. Please visit our web site for more information on all of our products and services.

Do you have an idea or suggestion you would like to share? We'd love to hear from you. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
