Year-Long Photo Challenge: 365 Project

"The 365 project is a photography project where you document a year of your life by taking a daily photo."

So begins the Welcome on the 365 Project web site. The web site and project are free. You create an account an upload your first picture to get started.  There are discussion boards, tips, inspiration and encouragement to help you "capture the otherwise forgotten moments in your life." There are also themes and competitions to challenge you even further. There's even an space to add a description of the picture you've taken... a mini journal or diary of sorts. But maybe the best part of the challenge is the ability to view some pretty incredible photos taken by others.  That alone is inspiration for me!

We've signed on to take the challenge. We hope you'll join us. Think of all the stories you can "show and tell" your friends and family. At year's end you will have a wonderful chronicle of your daily life. And you will likely improve your picture-taking abilities along the way. Here is a story from Bill Iddings which appeared in the Grand Rapids Press on Sunday, December 26, 2010 of a father and son from Ludington who took a picture-a day last year... and the book that resulted!

Check out Discussions on our Facebook page. Post a comment. Upload a photo you've taken. Have fun!

Michelle Wise's Birthday Party-Book Signing December 18

Michelle Wise, owner and proprietor of Wise Photography in Rockford, Michigan will host a very special Birthday Party-Book Signing at her Rockford studio on Saturday, December 18, 2010 beginning at 4:00 p.m. All are welcome!

Michelle has self-published a picture book entitled Discovery Through the Eyes of Children ~A Photographer's Journey.

Michelle's photography of children has inspired her and brought her closer to God. As she writes on her web site, "With lives full of stress and clutter, it is very hard to hear God's voice... I found amazing peace and I know what it means when people say, 'you must have a personal relationship with God.' I didn't know that was possible. God speaks to my heart and has directed me with business in so many ways, it's hard to imagine. So I thought if I shared pieces of what I've learned... maybe others will find the same amazing grace; maybe songs will have more meaning; maybe salvation and deliverance will come to be common words; maybe God will speak to your heart through my work."

You can see a sneak peak of Michelle's book here.  What has been eight years in the making is now available for others to enjoy.

Happy birthday and best wishes, Michelle. Your picture book is beautiful! You are truly an inspiration to others.

Fish Stories 'Framed' Here!

"Remember that fish I caught off shore in Pine Island, Florida last winter?" Now you can always remember... and so can his envious friends!

How about a custom card series for the sportsperson in your life?

It's easier than you think to create a truly one-of-a-kind card series for that special someone in your life. The card set above was made using one image. The 5x7 card is of Al, an avid fisherman. He fishes the waters of Michigan in the spring, summer and fall; he fishes the waters of Florida in the winter.  The 2x6 bookmark is the same fish Al is holding in the card (after using your favorite editing program).

Al's bookmark has his big fish on one side. The back side of the bookmark has the picture of Al holding the fish at the top, and the details (where, when, who) at the bottom. Bookmarks are sold individually.

A box of glue dots, a paper punch, a little natural cording later...and his fish bookmarks look like they're still on the stringer! Attach a glue dot to a bookmark and adhere it to a card... it's ready to send!

Another idea is to make a mini-Z card.  One image will wrap the outside of a card.  The details of the catch are on the inside of the card.  Mini Z's are sold in boxes of 24.

One more example of "framing" your fish story is with our new 5x15 tri-fold card. Imagine receiving a card like that in the mail! Tri-folds look great on a desk or work station. They are sold individually.

All of our boxes of cards and postcards are on special through the end of November: Buy one box and receive 50% more FREE!

Make Custom Holiday Cards With Your Family (Scrappers, too!)

Have more fun with your holiday cards this season by involving the whole family in creating truly custom cards for each person on your list.

Create a basic card. The example above is a 4"x5.5 postcard. I added a red background first; then added a picture; rounded the corners and placed a white border around it.  I added "Merry Christmas" in white letters near the bottom of the card. On the back of my card I placed a holiday greeting at the bottom, leaving plenty of room to write a personal message. (If you'd like instructions for adding a color background, please read this blog post.)
Visit your favorite hobby or craft store and purchase stickers, jewels, glitter and any other fun things you'd like to add to your cards. Scrappers I know enjoy making their own embellishments.

Assemble your card-building team and supplies. Spend an afternoon together customizing cards for your friends and family. Children will have fun making special cards for loved ones. Loved ones will enjoy receiving one-of-a-kind holiday card creations.
For more traditional custom cards, use your favorite pages, fabrics, and patterns as backgrounds on your card sets and embellish away!

FOOD and Photo Books, Cards, Calendars and Posters

Focus: Food.

We have a major food activity in our future: A Family Cookbook of hand-written family favorite recipes. We're in the final planning stages: schedule the pot-luck. Bringing the families together to share bread, share stories, share old pictures, and take new pictures with the goal: creating a "slice" of our family's history.

We'll be taking lots of pictures of the participants, to be sure... but we'll want to remember to take a few pictures of the wonderful food we'll be sharing!  Just in time, Digital Photography School offers 10 Tips for Mouth Watering Food Photography.  Who knows, some of our food shots may appear in a family food calendar, or family recipe cards!
These pictures were taken by Jen, a Freeze Frame Publishing partner.  I'm waiting for her card and calendar line!

Happy picnic-ing and pot-luck-ing!  Keep your cameras handy.

Somethin's Cookin': Family Recipe Photo Books!

Lots of old, hand-written, family recipes?  Aunt Marge brought a stack of old family recipes over recently.  I am charged with scanning them. We will have a family cookbook workshop early this fall.  Our goal: create a multi-generational cookbook of old family recipes.  Each family will receive a copy. We'll share a pot-luck dinner that night as we reminisce about old family favorites.

Here are two sample scans. These recipes were written on scraps of paper. We'll be able to include them in our cookbook along with memories of the cooks and the family members who savored the cooking!

Familiar smells.  Close your eyes and remember.  Childhood all over again. Special moments with friends and family relived.

We hope you will join us by creating your own family cookbooks.  Call your siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents. Gather your recipes and start scanning (or send them to us and we'll scan them for you!).

Please visit our web site for more information on Freeze Frame Publishing, our products and services. If you would assistance getting started, please contact me.  If you are interested in hosting a photo book workshop with your friends and family, please contact me to schedule a time!

Summer's in Full-Swing!

Beautiful weather for the 4th of July weekend in Michigan made it easy for many photo ops. Our summer community of Croton hosted its annual parade and fireworks... and we hosted our annual neighborhood breakfast. Over 70 people attended!  We had a dedicated "photographer" this year: one of our daughters. While we prepared, cooked and served... she snapped pictures.

We made a poster collage to display at next year's annual event. The poster measures 11"x17" and can be printed on both sides, or just one side as shown here.
I chose several crowd pictures as well as a few pictures of this year's fireworks. I chose red and blue borders and rounded corners on two. A big title and date in the center, and we're good to go!

We had so many pictures from which to choose that I made an Animoto video of this event! I wrote about Animoto in the last post.  It's a great site. They make me look like a professional.  If you haven't made one yet, I urge you to try it.  Here is our video.

Enjoy your summer. Take lots of pictures. Have fun!

Animoto and Your Photos!

Happy July! Happy July 4th holiday weekend!

I was reading through an email from Digital Photography School today and in it they mentioned how fun Animoto was.  They encouraged all their readers to give it a try with their digital photos.

What is Animoto? The site is dubbed: The end of slideshows... and it is! Animoto is a web-based service that lets you upload digital pictures and video clips to their site.  Add a title. Choose some background music. Press 'submit' and wait for the magic to happen!  The site takes your images and creates a wonderful animated slide show that you can share with your friends and family.  30-second Animotos can be made free.  There are other levels of paid subscriptions ranging from $3.00 for an Animoto longer than 30-seconds, to a couple hundred dollars for use of the site without the Animoto branding.

Try it out!  Take some great pictures of your 4th of July events and make your own Animoto.  Here is a sample Animoto that I made a few months ago when I first heard of the site. I have since made Animotos for our family members getting married this summer.

Enjoy your holiday weekend. Take lots of pictures.  Start thinking photo books and cards for your family holidays.  It's not too early!

Please visit our web site for more information on Freeze Frame Publishing, our products and our services.  If you have any questions, please contact me! I'd be happy to help.

We welcome your comments and suggestions.

Get Ready... NEW Software Coming Soon!

It's almost ready!  Our new software will be available very soon! For a quick peek, keep reading.

We've kept the features you have come to expect. Every page in our photo book software is still completely customizable... but we've added more photo book sizes and cover finishes.  We're especially excited to offer a really big photo book, 11" x 17", for extra special occasions.

The software interface is really different!  What used to be two separate icons on your desktop, one for photo books and one for cards, calendars, and posters, is now combined into one icon!

Our new opening screen

Our software now opens to our web page. But don't worry, if you are not connected to the internet, you can still create all of your photo products! And there is NO uploading of photos to our website, or any other website!  Your personal pictures remain on your computer, where they have always been.

Our photo book screen looks like this

Our card screen looks like this

You can now create 5" x 5"  calendars. These are available in sets if four.  This may be just the perfect size for family calendars.  There is room for one picture per month. You also can begin your calendar with any month.

We've also added a two-sided poster!  Stay tuned for step-by-step instructions on getting started using our new software.  If you would like to try our new software before it is released, please contact me and I'll get you started!

One more exciting piece of news:  if you just love our software as it is today... great!  Our first version will continue to work! You can continue to order online and share your books online with friends and family using our existing software.

Thank you for your interest in Freeze Frame Publishing.  We know you will enjoy "freezing time and framing your memories forever" with our NEW software!

If you would like more information on our products and services, please visit our web site, or contact me!

Thank you.  We invite your comments and suggestions!

Graduation Thank You Cards and Bookmarks

Do you have a graduating senior in your home?  Do you know a graduating senior? Are you planning a celebration open house?  A special dinner? Lots of activities are coming for your senior.  Now is a good time to start thinking about thank-you cards or note cards!
Katie provided our sample.  She choose three of her graduation shots for the front of her 4" x 5.5" postcard.  She created a text box and colored it yellow.  Then she opened another text box and added her name.  The back of her post card has "Thank You" centered at the top.  She has plenty of room to write her thank-yous.  She can either mail the postcard, or enclose it in an envelope.
Katie also created bookmarks.  She plans on handing these out to her guests.  Nice job!

Freeze Frame Publishing's software for cards, post cards, calendars, and posters is every bit as customizable as our photo book software.  Pictures and captions can be added anywhere.  Font, font size, and font color can be customized, too.  There is also plenty of clip art available in the software.

Please visit our web site for more information on our products and services.  If you have any questions, please contact us. We're here to help.

Take Better Photos in 5 Easy Steps

Spring is the perfect time to learn something new. That holds true for the promise of spring, too!

I have been learning how to operate my camera in the hopes of taking better pictures.  Our family has three high school graduations and two weddings to look forward to this spring, summer and fall. Plenty of picture-taking opportunities await!

This Photos by Jay   blog post might be helpful.  It certainly has all the ingredients I like: not too many tips at once... and the word EASY in the title. With a little practice, Jay's tips will become second nature.

Please visit our web site for more information on our products and services.  You can also sign up to have our blog posts emailed to you.

Enjoy the impending spring season; take lots of pictures!

Our friend, Kim Sorrelle, from English Hills Terrace and Rays of Hope for Haiti, is opening her banquet facility for this fund raising event to help raise funds for Rays of Hope for Haiti, The Steve Sorrelle Vocational School in the Dominican Republic, and area fund raising  groups. Several vendors will be on hand offering a wide variety of products. Donations are always welcome!

At last you can feel GOOD, GOOD, GOOD while shopping! Freeze Frame Publishing will be on hand selling pre-paid gift certificates for the Kenowa Hills Senior All-Knight Party 2010.  Stop by and see us.  Pre-paid gift certificates for photo books come in handy for bridal showers, baby showers, graduation gifts, and even for yourself.  Now is the perfect time to start freezing time and framing your own memories.  We will offer software demonstrations in our booth, too!  Proceeds from our sales will benefit Kenowa Hills Seniors, Rays of Hope for Haiti, and The Steve Sorrelle Vocational Center in the Dominican Republic.

Can't make it to the fund raising show?  Contact us, we'll be happy to take your order over the phone.  Proceeds from phone orders will benefit the same groups.

Please visit the Rays of Hope for Haiti web site to find out how you can get involved in helping this long standing organization in Grand Rapids, Michigan help those in need in Haiti.

Hope to see you there!
