Research Your Audience

One way to target your marketing efforts is to target your market audience. The more information you have on your target audience (and your audience is not everybody!) the more you can refine your marketing approach to reach them.

Non-fiction writers may have an easier time identifying their audiences… but fiction writers can research their audiences too.

  • Are there groups, clubs or organizations that might be interested in your book?
  • What age group does your book appeal to?
  • Where does this age group hang out?
  • Is your book targeted to specific gender?
  • Will your book appeal to readers of different genres?
  • What is the central theme or conflict in your book? Where could you find people in this audience?

Create a personal profile of a member of your audience. Give him a name. What are her hobbies? Where and how would he purchase your book? Would she be likely to interact with you online or at a speaking engagement? You get the idea. The more clearly you can picture who is inclined to purchase your book the easier it will be to find them!

Best wishes, writers!

How To Be a Guest Blogger

4857508633_86fb572818_z
One way to increase your fan base, your followers, is to write guest posts for other blog sites.

Where Do I Find Other Blogs?

You’re willing to write posts on others’ blogs… finding blogs that are a good fit for you can be time consuming. One way to find blogs is through a Google search.  These search phrases produced several resources:
  • blog hops
  • blog hop directory
  • blog link ups
  • author blog topics
  • author blog tours
Another way to find blogs is through LinkedIn. There are many groups on LinkedIn actively searching for guest bloggers.

Why Post on Other Blog Sites?
  • Posting on other sites is a way to expand your readership.
  • You add fresh insight or perspective to other blogs.
  • You can add back links to your blog in the author bio section.
  • You hone your writing skills.
  • You can meet new people!
  • You may even receive requests from others to post on your blog.
The point is to build your base, encourage others, and make new friends as you perfect your writing. Now is a good time to start.

Best wishes, writers!

Another Marketing Idea BEFORE Your Book Launch

domain name

Purchase domain names now for your business as well as for titles of your books. If your name is available, purchase it too!

Domain names are available from many online vendors. They are inexpensive (around $15 per year) and can be held until you need them. Do a quick Google search for ‘domain names’ and you will find many sites that not only sell domain names but offer web site hosting as well.

Whether you build your own web site or hire someone to build a site for you, your domain names will be ready when you are.

Best wishes, writers!

Self-Publishers Start Marketing Your Book NOW!

Now? I don’t even have a finished book!

7815248478_fe2f79539f_c

Now is a perfect time to start your marketing efforts!

  1. Start an author blog and chronicle your process. Your readers will like following you on your journey from story idea to published book. Wordpress and Blogger offer free blog platforms that are easy to start and use. Don't worry about a following at first... your fans will come. A blog is a way for you to connect with your fans and others.
  2. Write for other blogs. Write guest posts on other blogs. Often you can provide links to your facebook page, twitter and blog or web site at the end of your post. Guest posting expands your reach. Future fans will meet you this way. You establish yourself as approachable. You can encourage others to pursue their dreams as you pursue yours.
  3. Submit articles to magazines and newspapers. You develop your writing skills. You learn if your writing is professional enough for publications. You establish yourself as a “published author” and add more credibility to your name.

Build your “fan base” while you are completing your manuscript. When your book is ready, you can let your friends, family and followers know… they can help you spread the word!

Best wishes, writers!

But can I really self-publish?

Yes, you can self-publish!

The print and publishing worlds are changing dramatically. A book that used to cost thousands of dollars to produce can be printed for a fraction of the cost today.

Now might be the time for you to dip your toe in the self-publishing waters. Now might be the time to have your book professionally printed and bound.

But how do I begin?

Begin at the end. Close your eyes and envision your finished book. Is it hardcover or softcover? What size is your book? Is it sold online or in stores?

Okay... What is self-publishing?

Publishing and self-publishing is the business side of writing. Publishing your work, whether by traditional publishing or by self-publishing, is investing time and money taking your manuscript and turning it into a printed book or and e-book for others to read and enjoy. Publishers spend their time and money to finance their book projects.

Are you up for the adventure?

Freeze Frame Publishing's Storytellers Guide Service is here to assist you on your journey. Please visit our website for more information on our self-publishing services.

Check back for tips and encouragement... and provisions for your journey!
